First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist

Then they came for the Socialists

Then they came for the trade unionists

Then they came for the Jews

Because I was not a Jew

This poem is of significant importance not only because it is telling the truth nowadays for so many “unions” and social groups that their leaders are muted and deaf willingly or unwillingly.
But because the man that wrote it stood up and fought until the end for what he believed is right and because he paid a big price for this fight. He became an example for others to follow. So it’s not only words but consequently actions, that made this poem so popular and so true.
